Frequently Asked Questions
Bike
Who came up with the Sandwichbike?
The Sandwichbike is designed by Basten Leijh. Visit the main menu on our website for the full history of the Sandwichbike, as well as more information on the materials and parts.
Is the Sandwichbike weather proof?
We don’t expect you to ride your Sandwichbike indoors, so we made sure the wooden frame will do it’s job, rain or shine. However, wood still is an organic material, so in order to enjoy your Sandwichbike as long as possible we advise you to take good care of it.
My bike makes a cracking sound, what is this and what can I do about it?
This sound is not caused by the wood but it is caused by the friction between materials, and doesn’t harm anything. By putting assembly paste on these areas, the sound will be completely gone. Please check this manual to see where to add the paste.
Can I take it off road?
Even though the Sandwichbike is very sturdy and tough, we did not design it as an off road bike. It’s a great bike for cruising around town or a ride to the beach, but if you plan on ending up covered in mud somewhere in a forest, it might not be the most comfortable choice.
Does it come with a brake?
Riding a Sandwichbike is a lot of fun, but traffic lights, other vehicles or small children may force you to slow it down from time to time. We therefore outfitted the Sandwichbike with a coaster brake in the hub of the rear wheel. Just pedal backwards and the brake will engage. If you prefer extra brake security, a hand brake on the front wheel is also an option. This is available in our store.
Is the Sandwichbike the right size for me?
The Sandwichbike is available in a medium size (51 CM) at first. If you are of average height the Sandwichbike will fit you just fine, and the adjustable seat makes sure you’re nice and comfortable. If you are a little less tall, you can choose to take a small frame Wooden Fork or Steel Fork Sandwichbike.

It’s not a contest, so take your time and make sure everything is in the right place. Our guess is you could pull it off in about an hour. Of course, practice makes perfect, so if you decide to expand your Sandwichbike collection, the next one may find its way to completion a bit quicker.
How do I assemble my Sandwichbike?
In the Sandwich-box you will find a step-by-step manual. Understandable for everybody. Do you want to see somebody doing it? Then you can watch our instruction videos here.
Can I assemble the bike multiple times?
It’s not a folding bike, but taking it apart and putting it together multiple times is no problem. Though if you plan on doing so on a daily basis it may prove a bit time-consuming.
I tried and tried, but it just won’t work.
